Aesthetics when it comes to brand marketing is everything. If you are using your cousin, daughter, brother in law or your friend down the street to design your graphics…. STOP IT NOW…. PLEASE!
What you put out there to represent your personal / business brand will affect the quality of clients you see responding to your branding efforts. I cannot say this enough… Look at what your competition is doing. I don’t mean the other guy using his cousin, daughter, brother, etc… I mean the person that came up in the top 10 of your Google search. I mean the company whose graphics you look at and think… “Damn that looks good.” I’m talking about the company that you know has the profits and success you want for yourself / business.
I know that hiring a graphic designer or brand specialist can be a bit costly but you have to put your money where your mouth is. I can’t say this enough either… “If you won’t spend money to make your brand look professional why should anyone spend their money with you?” Think about how many times you have seen an ad and thought about how cheesy it looks and then never give it a second glance? How many times have you visited a website and wondered what the Hell was going on? We do it all the time and never even think about it. People spend their money with brands they feel they can trust. i.e. AT&T, Apple, Lancome, Coach, Versace, Macy’s. If your brand in anyway looks shady, unreliable, fly by night…. People will be hesitant about spending their money with your company.
If you have a quality product or service it is time you put some money to the side and invest in yourself in order to build brand trust with your potential clients. Your marketing efforts need to match the quality of your products / services. If you aren’t willing to spend money on your marketing, stop complaining when you get what you pay for; clients that skip out with before paying, clients that aren’t loyal, clients who are always trying to work a deal to get a discount. You branding efforts should mirror those of America’s most trusted brands and I guarantee you none of them are letting non-professionals handle their graphic branding efforts.
If you don’t RESPECT YOUR BRAND…. No one else will either.
